Suggested Timeline

The Bullying Prevention Coordinating Committee should work closely with your school's certified Olweus trainer to create a timeline. You'll want a timeline that follows an appropriate pace for your school and allows you to implement the program with integrity. An optimal timeline, assuming launch at the beginning of the fall semester, may look something like this:

Target Dates
for Fall Launch

Activity

Late winter / early spring

Select members of the BPCC and an on-site OBPP coordinator

March/April

Administer the Olweus Bullying Questionnaire

April/May

Have a certified Olweus trainer conduct a two-day training session for members of the BPCC; have the committee begin meeting every two weeks to work out details of program implementation.

May/June

Input data (if using manual entry version) or obtain data (if using the scannable or online version) of the Olweus Bullying Questionnaire; review data from the questionnaire.

August/September

Conduct one-day training for all school staff. Hold your school kick-off event(s) with students and parents.

Beginning of the fall semester; following the one-day staff training

Plan, schedule and launch other elements of the schoolwide program:

  • Introduce school/class rules against bullying.
  • Begin classroom meetings.
  • Increase supervision; review and coordinate your supervisory system.
  • Initiate individual interventions with students.
  • Start regular staff discussion groups (get these on the shedule before the school year begins).
  • Hold parent meetings.
